Description
As an entry level qualification for the Childcare industry, this qualification covers workers who use organisation policies, procedures and individual children’s profiles to plan activities and provide care to children, facilitating their leisure and play and enabling them to achieve their developmental outcomes. Depending on the setting, workers may work under direct supervision or autonomously.

Course Structure
All units delivered in the Certificate III in Children’s Services are listed below and are delivered via face to face course delivery and in the field (work place). To suit individual student needs, the course is also delivered by distance  learning (self paced training). Teacher presentations, videos, resource texts, group exercises and role play are included in the classroom environment while distance learning students receive their course resources directly. Assessments are completed using industry accredited exercise resources, observations in the field (place of employment) and group exercises. All students receive a vocational training field placement book to record their assessments in the field (child care centre).

Study Modes
Course delivery methods include class room activities supported by teacher presentations, guided demonstrations in the field; self paced activities and group work. Assessment methods include written assignments and exercises, group presentations, practical observations in the field, documentation of log book and set project tasks.

Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles such as:
• Preparing appetisers, salads, stocks, sauces and soups.
• Preparing vegetables, fruit, eggs and farinaceous dishes.
• Selecting, preparing and cooking poultry, seafood and meat.
• Preparing hot and cold desserts, pastries, cakes and yeast goods.
• Planning and preparing food for buffets.

Prerequisites
Students must demonstrate an interest in and suitability for work in the children’s services field with the ability to be responsible for the care of children. Applicants must also possess the study skills to complete the
formal study program, the physical, mental and emotional health to interact positively with children and parents.

Basic entry level computer skills (ability to word process,write and read emails and internet)

Entry requirements
Satisfactory completion of Year 10 or its equivalent or mature age. No previous knowledge is assumed for students of these units.

English Proficiency Level - English Level of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.

Units of competency to be achieved
A total of 15units of competency is required for the award of a Certificate IIII in Community Services (Children’s Services). This includes:

  • • 11 core (C) units and 4 elective (E) units
  • • 20 weeks course duration
  • • 160 hours industry field placement – Smarter Kids Kindergartens and Preschool
  • • 9:30 am to 3:30 pm Monday & Tuesday - 12 hrs class room tuition per week (240 hours total)
  • • 7:00 am to 6:00 pm Wednesday to Friday - 8 hrs industry placement for 20 weeks (160 hours total)*
  • • Course Total: 400 HOURS (Course duration 6 months)

Credit Transfer
Credit will be given to any applicant who has successfully completed modules/units of competency which give the equivalence into training programs offered by the Australian College of Early Childhood Education and which have been gained with another recognised training organisation. You will need to produce your original statement of attainment or a certified copy for our records.  (RCC)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
What is Recognition of Prior Learning? - The acknowledgement of the full range of an individual's skills and knowledge acquired from previous industry skills. This means that you may be able to receive recognition for any units you may have acquired, regardless of where or how you acquired them. For example, you may have completed a formal training program at a College or University, or you may have acquired them through on-the-job training or even through some hobbies or community work in which you have been engaged.
